Born from the desire to gather black writers together to meet one another, create and also heal amidst an unbearable anti-black landscape, Writing While Black is more than a creative writing workshop. This series seeks to develop a community of black writers who support each other's artistic projects.

Inviting new and seasoned authors alike, WWB works towards creating an environment where black writers can foster their own growth and potential. WWB also offers the opportunity to bring Toronto’s black writers together to discuss, understand and make the most of our unique perspective as black artists. Simply put, its way to combine the love of writing and storytelling with discussions of culture, heritage and race which can often be ignored or overlooked. By addressing, decolonizing and creating alongside these tensions black people face today, we can enrich our writing.
